This series was created in Kolkata, India, during a collaborative shoot with my friend Siddharth, a professional dog trainer seeking visual content to promote his training practice. We spent an early morning around the Victoria Memorial, using the soft natural light and calm atmosphere to create a setting that felt both elegant and authentic.
From the first moments of the shoot, Siddharth’s professionalism and deep understanding of canine behaviour were clearly visible. The dogs responded to his commands with remarkable precision, moving calmly and confidently through each exercise. Their focus, trust, and eagerness to work reflected not only disciplined training, but also a strong bond built on patience, consistency, and care. It was equally striking to observe how genuinely loving and expressive the dogs were — reinforcing my belief that when treated with respect, animals give that respect back in abundance.
For me, this project was a fast-paced, observational experience. The dynamic nature of training sessions meant working with quick reactions, strong situational awareness, and careful positioning in order to capture decisive moments as they unfolded. I focused on balancing technical precision with storytelling — freezing moments of concentration, connection, and motion, while also allowing space for wider contextual frames that place the work within its environment.
This shoot strengthened my interest in documenting human–animal relationships and practical, real-world skills in action. It was less about staged imagery and more about responding to reality as it happened — an approach that aligns closely with my broader documentary and visual storytelling practice.
